2023 Prospa Local Business Hero named
A passion for pets, and their owners, has seen Putaruru’s Meg Wilson win the 2023 Prospa Local Business Hero Award.
In our fourth year of sponsoring the Prospa Local Business Hero awards alongside Neighbourly, it’s truly heart-warming to see the hundreds of nominations that came through from across the country. With a record 40% increase in nominations this year, we know it’s a true testament to how much Kiwi’s value our local small business owners, and it’s so encouraging to see Kiwis rallying behind small businesses in times of need.
Our deserving 2023 Prospa Local Business Hero is Putaruru’s Meg Wilson. Meg selflessly runs the Paws Pet Animal Welfare shops in Putāruru, and the three shops she established are run entirely by volunteers and proceeds are used to de-sex pets or rescue badly treated cats and dogs.
Prospa Managing Director NZ, Adrienne Begbie, says the Prospa Local Business Hero Awards has been going strong for four years and they’re stoked it was such a huge success with a record number of nominations.

Meg has dedicated her life to animals in need and during Cyclone Gabrielle, she took it upon herself to make sure her community was safe and had all the essential items they needed.
