Every neighbourhood has at least one business where a friendly face or a helping hand transforms an ordinary transaction into something more. They are the small businesses that go beyond day-to-day transactions, offering support, positivity, and a sense of genuine care that extends far beyond their storefronts.

That is why Prospa is so proud to be sponsoring the Local Business Hero competition for the seventh year – inviting Kiwis to recognise the unsung heroes- the individuals or the collective teams – who make our communities truly special by nominating a business that stands out in their town.

Our New Zealand Managing Director, Adrienne Begbie, said it best.

“I’m incredibly excited to be launching the seventh year of the Prospa Local Business Hero Awards.”

“I personally love reading the nominations each year – they show just how many people and businesses are making a positive difference in everyday life. Supporting local businesses and celebrating their impact is a big part of what makes the work we do at Prospa so meaningful.”

Prospa and Neighbourly are calling on Kiwis to nominate the local businesses that have made a difference. Whether it’s a pharmacy that always brings a smile, a café that makes an effort to remember your name, or a shop throwing its support behind a local causes, every community has its heroes. And if you’re nominated local business wins, you can win a $500 Prezzy® gift card.

2025 marked the sixth year of this popular nationwide campaign hosted on Neighbourly.co.nz with over 1,100 entries nominating businesses including supermarkets, mechanics, bakeries and shoe stores. Read more about last year’s winner – Catnap Cafe – here.
